A View from the President
Hello to everyone. It is a great pleasure to pen a few words for this newsletter in what I hope is a world which is returning to some form of normality – at least for some of us.
After a tough time for the Kings Bromley Horticultural Society and the village community in both 2020 and 2021, it is good to be able to report we are mounting a fight back!
Therefore, the Show Committee have decided to organise an Autumn Fête to be held on Saturday 18th September 2021, 12 noon to 4pm at the Village Hall.
This allows us to deal with all the Covid-secure requirements to keep everyone safe, which would have been an enormous challenge, if not well nigh impossible, if we had tried to mount a show in July.
We will be having a very light hearted event this year. Competitive entries will not be judged by professionals, but by village ‘experts’ instead. I have no doubt they will prove to be equally demanding!
This event is a fundraiser. We have had to meet significant costs over the last two years with zero income. Our Show field is there for everyone to use for play, exercise, dog walking and more. If you enjoy using these facilities, please become a member of the Horticultural Society. We would really appreciate it.
Please do come along on the day and please do consider entering one of the competitive classes – just for the sheer fun of it. It’s only 50p to enter a class. More details opposite.
See you there.
Paul Bowns, President
Another date for your diary – AGM
Not only was the 2020 AGM delayed until March of this year, but for the very first time for the Society and for many of the members (who had to grapple with new technology) was held via Zoom. This year it is hoped that the AGM can return to its usual format and venue – the Village Hall.
The date will be Wednesday 24th November
Reminders, papers & more details nearer the time.
**Autumn Fete – Sat 18th September**
As mentioned, primarily this event is being held as a fundraiser for the Society to help meet those costs which it has to meet e.g. insurances, mowing, strimming and this year essential tree pruning.
However, the Show Committee also wanted to put on an event for the village and the community. This is why we really do need your support and that of your families and friends.
The event takes place at the Village Hall and will feature a Competitive Section although obviously smaller in scale than would normally be found in the big Marquee on the Show Field. There will sections for Horticulture, Art, Cookery, Crafts & Photography.
Given the number and length of the lock downs we have all had to endure, I’m sure many people have whiled away the hours being extremely creative in art, crafts and photography. There’s no excuse for not entering as somewhere there is that painting, a photo taken on a walk or a hand-made item that just deserves to be entered. Or, have you developed gardening or baking skills? Show off and display those beans or a cake! Limited prize money will be up for grabs but we all know it’s not about the ‘dosh’ but more about joining in and the ‘have-a-go’ spirit. Neither will it cost you a fortune as it’s only 50p an entry.
Towards the end of August, look out for a Class Schedule dropping onto your door mat showing all the sections you can enter.
On the day itself the Village Harmony Choir will be singing, there will be traditional games, a tombola and light refreshments being served.
Admission to the Village Hall is £2.00 Adults/Children Free
From 4.00pm onwards there will be a BBQ at the Royal Oak, the proceeds of which will be part of the fund raising, followed by live music. (Timing for music to be advised).
